It’s Holiday party season, and I am always looking for fun, festive ways to celebrate with food! Today, I’m sharing a super simple appetizer, this Christmas Tree Pull-Apart Bread! You are going to love how simple and delicious this recipe is. Plus, it’ll spruce up any holiday table in no time!

All you need are simple ingredients: canned store-bought dough, mozzarella sticks, butter, garlic, Italian seasoning, an egg, and an option topping of parmesan cheese. The balls of dough are placed into the shape of a Christmas tree, brushed with a simple egg wash, and baked into ooey gooey cheesy bread. Brush with melted butter, spices, and parmesan cheese, then serve with your favorite marinara sauce or pesto for dipping, and enjoy!

  • Jumbo biscuits: I used a can of jumbo biscuit dough. You can use store-bought crescent rolls or another ready-made dough– pizza dough, etc. Check the refrigerated section of your grocery store for dough options.
  • Mozzarella cheese sticks
  • Salted butter
  • Minced garlic
  • Italian seasoning
  • Egg
  • Grated parmesan cheese: Optional for topping.
  • Optional Dipping Sauces: Pesto or Marinara (or pizza sauce if desired!).
  • Red pepper flakes: Option for added spice.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400F and line a large baking sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cut each biscuit into fourths, you should have 32 pieces ( you will only need 31 of these pieces though). Cut the cheese sticks into 31 pieces.
  3. Place a small portion of mozzarella cheese on every square of dough. Seal the edges securely, then shape the dough into a ball by rolling it smoothly between your hands.
  4. Arrange the balls on the lined baking sheet, forming a tree shape with the seams facing downward and ensuring the balls are slightly touching. Whisk the egg and gently brush it over the dough.
  5. Place in the oven and bake for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown. Monitor closely, and if browning occurs too rapidly, cover with foil.
  6. As the bread bakes, melt the butter and mix in the grated garlic and seasoning. Brush this mixture onto the rolls and, if desired, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  7. Serve immediately with marinara or pesto sauce for dipping
