Happy Spring!
With each new season, it is such a joy to introduce fresh, seasonal produce into your little one's diet. Depending on the produce that is available to you locally, we wanted to provide some inspiration for incorporatingfresh fruits and veggies into your baby's meal rotation. Whether you are picking up juicy strawberries from your town's farm stand, or hoping to offer more colorful veggies this spring, we have whipped up a couple of recipes for you to try. Just gather the ingredients and go from there!
1. Strawberry Puree
This first recipe is perfect for babies who are accustomed to purees and it contains one simpleingredient.
To make this recipe, gather the following ingredients:
- 1/2 cup strawberries
Simply wash and chop the stems off of the strawberries. Pop them into a blender and pulse until smooth. Serve up immediately or chill in the refrigerator first to offer as a cooling treat! Store any remaining puree in an airtight container and keep in the fridge. You could also choose to place remaining puree into a popsicle holder and freeze to use later as a teething treat!
2. Carrot Avocado Mix
This next recipe is geared towards little ones who are accustomed to foods with a little bit of texture.
To make this recipe, gather the following ingredients:
- 1/2 avocado, peeled
- 2 medium sized carrots, washed and peeled
- 1/2 cup organic baby formula or breastmilk
Begin by boiling the carrots over the stove until soft. Chop and place into your blender or food processor along with the avocado and formula or breastmilk. Blend until you reach the desired consistency. Be sure to cool before serving! Store remaining puree in an airtight container in the fridge anduse within one-two days.
3. Fresh Baked Muffins
This recipe is geared towards older babies and toddlers who are accustomed to eating solid foods. These muffins use fresh ingredients by combiningboth fruit and veggies, and they offer up a fun twist on everyday meals and snacks!
To make this recipe, gather the following ingredients:
- 1 apple, washed and peeled
- 1 medium carrot, washed and peeled
- 1 banana, peeled
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp natural vanilla
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
Begin by placing the apple, carrot and banana into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Place puree into a mixing bowl and add in the remaining ingredients. Mix well and pour into a prepared muffin pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Fully cool before serving and store remaining muffins in an airtight container for up to three days!
4. Spring ProteinSmoothie for Parents
This last recipe is especially for parents! We know that parents of babies and young children are busy...so here is a healthy recipe to try that tastes delicious and helps you keep up with your sweet little one! You can alter many of the ingredients as noted below to best suit your taste.
To make, gather the following:
- 1 banana, peeled
- 1 scoop of your preferred proteinpowder
- 1 cup of your preferred milk (dairy or non-dairy will work)
- 1/2 cup of greens (we recommend spinach or kale)
- 1/2 cup mixed berries (we recommend blueberries, raspberries and strawberries)
- 1 tsp of honey
- 1/2 cup of ice
Place all ingredients into a blender together and pulse until smooth!
While making these recipes together is surely a treat, try taking your baby to your local farm stand to pick up these ingredients fresh from the source! Spending a day together picking strawberries or strolling the farmer's market is a great way to spend time together, all while shopping for healthy produce.
